Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

1. Which of these is NOT one of the seven main schools wizards can choose to learn spells from?

Answer: WaterThere are seven main schools: life, death, myth, storm, fire, ice (which is different to water) and balance.

They are each known for different things - life has most healing spells, death have spells that do damage and give half the damage back as health, fire has damage over time and ice has a very good shield among other things. Myth have lots of different minions, storm does lots of damage (with low accuracy) and balance has a bit of everything - elemental school (fire, ice and storm) blades and spirit school (life, death and myth) shields, blades that increase and decrease damage and spells that do damage from multiple schools.

2. What does the life spell "Leprechaun" do?

Answer: 155-195 life damageThere are many different types of spells. Damage spells do damage to the opponent you choose (sometimes to all opponents), enchantment spells add extra damage or accuracy and auras hang around people until they are activated - these include damage over time, heal over time, traps and blades (increase damage) and shields (decrease damage). Steal spells take damage from the enemy and give health back, health spells heal, global spells affect all players (negatively, or positively) and manipulation does a lot of things from summoning minions to casting prisms, reshuffling decks or even giving pips to other players.

Spells have a lot of things that affect them - a "Black Mantle" would decrease the spell's accuracy by 45%. That means that if a "Storm Shark" (70% accuracy) was played after a black mantle was placed on the caster, that spell would have a massive chance of fizzling (not working) - 75%. The damage of a spell can be affected by a shield or a blade/trap (or both). For instance, if weakness (-25% damage) was placed on a person who casted ghoul (160 damage, half heal self) on an enemy with a death shield (-80% death damage), the ghoul would do only 24 damage (and half heal to self), assuming no other factors affected the damage, and that it didn't fizzle.

Life wizards have a minion (but not a leprechaun minion) - the Forest Sprite minion, summoned by four pips from the spell "Sprite Guardian". Their spell "Unicorn" heals all allies by 275 health, "Sprite" heals 30 and then 90 for each of the next three rounds and "Leprechaun" does indeed do between 155 and 195 damage.

3. Where in Wizard City is Diego the Duelmaster?

Answer: Near the entrance to Unicorn Way, outside the Dueling ArenaDiego the Duelmaster teaches spells (mostly used in Player verses Player matches) and sell pets and clothes (which cost arena tickets, won in Player verses Player and Pet Derby ranked matches/races). He also gives players a tutorial for dueling when they reach level 6 and a tutorial (also about duels) when they reach level 50.

4. Where is the Bazaar?

Answer: Olde TownA "Bazaar" in real life is a permanent marketplace or group of shops where you can buy or sell products (or services). In "Wizard101" it is a place in Olde Town where most wizards buy/sell clothing and equipment, reagents, housing items and treasure cards. Some items cannot be sold in the Bazaar; these items have "No Auction" written under their abilities.

5. What is the first street you gain access to (The Commons is not a street, neither is Ravenwood or the Shopping District)?

Answer: Unicorn WayOnce you have completed the main quests (ones you cannot decline) in Unicorn Way, you get told by Merle Ambrose (the headmaster) to speak to Sergeant Muldoon in Olde Town. If you can complete his quest and defeat Lady Blackhope, then he gives you quests to talk to people in Triton Avenue, Firecat Alley and Cyclops Lane.

When you complete the main quests in those places you get a quest to defeat Foulgaze, and then Lord Nightshade. At the same time you gain access to Colossus Boulevard (a place not in the main storyline) and Nightside.

6. Lord Nightshade, the Wraith helping Malistaire with his plan to destroy Wizard City, is a very hard boss to beat, especially if you are a wizard from the same school that he is from. Which type of creature is Lord Nightshade?

Answer: DeathLord Nightshade is 50% resistant to death spells, and death wizards don't get their prism (prisms change damage into the opposite school e.g. death prism makes it life damage, fire prism makes it ice damage) until they unlock Nightside (and Colossus Boulevard). Death wizards should probably use their secondary school spells (ones bought with training points from another school) if they have any. Luckily for life wizards, Lord Nightshade does not have any life shields, despite the fact quite a few bosses (and some other creatures) have shields from the opposite school.

He is the usually the first cheating boss wizards encounter, although most won't notice, as he is only immune to the spells "Stun" and "Beguile".

7. When you beat, Lord Nightshade, you get into Nightside. Next to the Death School is Marla Stinger, who has a quest for you. After talking to the Myth professor and battling a Cyclops or two, you unlock which place?

Answer: Sunken CitySunken City is (apart from a few really high level towers) the hardest place in Wizard City, but you do not have to complete it to progress to the next world. It is a dungeon where you have to fight a boss and quite a few high health creatures (that's if you avoid the fights on the street) before you get to Grubb. Grubb is a death boss and has 1,000 health. He has a couple of Living Scarecrow minions with him, which have about double the health of the Field Guard - a rank 3 creature. Life wizards need to defeat Grubb to get their level 38 spell quest (after they fight the Jade Oni), but they should have an easier time, since most creatures in Sunken City are death (or myth) and have a boost on life spells (and no life shield).

Krokotopia is the next storyline world leading on from Wizard City. The Death School is unlocked automatically when you reach Nightside and Grizzleheim is a side-world (optional) for level 20+. Grizzleheim has good gear and a couple of worthwhile spells (at level 35 and 55).

8. From the very first world, Wizard City, crafting is available to wizards. What is it?

Answer: Finding reagents and items and making them into other itemsReagents are items found randomly throughout every world in "Wizard101". Certain reagents (e.g. cat tails) appear in certain places (e.g. in water). Using these reagents (and sometimes treasure cards or housing items) wizards can turn them into a different item using crafting stations.

There are many different crafting stations: three are available from vendors, one is gained through a crafting quest and a couple are located in different worlds. Different stations craft different items: for instance, the basic crafting station crafts most clothing items but sometimes equipment stations are required e.g. to make the Possibility Dirk.

9. From level 12, wizards can garden. Which of these is NOT a real part of gardening?

Answer: Garden training pointsThere are special vendors who sell seeds, and certain creatures drop seeds on occasion, too. Some seeds can be bought from the crown shop, or obtained randomly through a "hoard pack".

Garden spells can also be bought from the special gardening vendors. There are 4 main types of garden spells - pest spells (which remove pests from plants), growing spells (which remove needs from plants e.g. sun, rain, music), soil spells (which make soil outside for plants to grow in), utility spells (which do various things e.g. remove soil).

Pots are an alternative to soil. There are four types of pots - small, small enchanted, medium and medium enchanted. There are six types of soil - the four types above, large and large enchanted. Each plant requires a different type of soil e.g. prickly bear cacti require medium enchanted soil.

Training points are used to purchase spells from another school (e.g. a fire wizard would use training points to buy an ice spell), but cannot be used to buy garden spells.

10. At level 7, wizards can get a free pet after completing a quick quest. Pets do not only look nice, they can help wizards in duels. Which of these things can they NOT do?

Answer: Increase your maximum energyFor your pets to get talents, you have to train them, (arguably) the best way being by playing games at the pet pavilion. Not all talents help wizards in duels.

Lots of pets can cast lots of different spells e.g. the Arctic Ninja Pig casts a tower shield (-50% damage to the next spell your opponent uses on you) whenever you or your opponent attacks.

Some pets (e.g. Cupig) can increase your health. The amount varies depending on how well your pet is trained.

Some pets can increase your resistance to one or all schools. For instance, the Ice Bat can increase your ice resistance, and the Sea Dragon can increase your overall resistance.

Energy is used to train pets (among other things). You start off with 40 maximum energy at level 1, and gain a maximum point every even level e.g. at level 24 you get an extra maximum point bringing your total from 51 to 52.
